21-DAY COMPETITION - OVERVIEW

The 21-Day Filmmaking Competition gives Teams of filmmakers and animators from around the world the opportunity to make short films and animations (up to 10 minutes long) in just 21 days, and provides them with a guaranteed theatrical screening at the Project Twenty1 Film Festival, and worldwide promotion after the festival ends.

When does filmmaking take place? In 2009, the Competition will begin August 1st (the "Launch Event"). Films will be due August 22nd (the "Drop Event").

Why make a Team? The 21-Day Filmmaking Competition gives filmmakers and animators the motivation to produce original work with a realistic deadline and friendly competition, ample resources to build a cast and crew, and more screenings and exposure possibilities for your new opus than you can find anywhere else!

How does it work?

Launch Event (filmmaking begins): On August 1st, from 2:00-6:00pm EDT, Teams local to the Philadelphia area are invited to hear the rules, ask questions, and network with actors, musicians, and crew to complete their dream teams. The event culminates with the reveal of the "Secret Element" that all films must include. Hundreds of filmmakers, talent, writers, artists, and enthusiasts flock to this event for the opportunity to meet Team members and join forces. Teams and volunteers from outside of the region flock to our online message board to join forces virtually, share resources, and receive the Element via email.

Drop Event & Wrap Party (filmmaking ends): On August 22nd, Teams rush to get their films and supplemental materials in on time before 6:00pm EDT. After the countdown is finished and the pressure is off, Teams stay to share tales of their triumphs and horror stories on camera, and celebrate their achievements at our official Wrap Party! (new for 2009!)

Festival Screenings: Between October 1st-4th, all films completed within the deadline are guaranteed a World Premiere screening at the 2009 Project Twenty1 Film & Animation Festival, and are eligible for Awards and Prizes in a dozen different categories, including Best Acting, Best Directing, Best Writing, Best Use of Element, Best Effects, and of course, Best Film.

Additional Promotion: The promotion of our 21-Day filmmakers doesn't end with the end of our festival in October. The top films which receive a commercial release on DVD, exposure online on Channel Twenty1, and get submitted to Project Twenty1’s growing partner festivals for future screening and award consideration, thus saving our filmmaking Teams hundreds of dollars and giving them tons of exposure!

Prizes: The 2009 Prize package is still being finalized, but you can check The Prize page for the latest updates! This year, in addition to all the exposure you'll receive, our Grand Prize sponsor is Pegasys, Inc. who are donating a handsome software package.
