PHILADELPHIA FILMATHON - OVERVIEW
Project Twenty1's Philadelphia Filmathon looks for and exhibits an exclusive selection of shorts and features from around the globe. Started in 2007, the Filmathon has rapidly expanded to a multi-day series of screenings at the Project Twenty1 Film Festival in Philadelphia, and has hosted filmmakers from all over the country.
Why submit to the Filmathon?
NEW for 2009! One Submission Goes a Long Way! Project Twenty1 is offering our filmmakers a choice they have not seen elsewhere in a festival this size: In addition to potentially screening at the October 2009 festival, submission to the Filmathon places your film into our Film Library, from which we submit films to our partner organizations, screenings, and festivals. This saves you time & money and qualifies you for tons of awards and prizes indefinitely. In a nutshell, if we like your film, we will keep finding ways to screen it until you tell us to stop!
We know as filmmakers, you have a LOT of choices as to where to send your films, so in addition to the above, we consistently offer low entry fees (starting at $21), exceptional screening quality, an exciting independent film community ripe with connections, and a fun atmosphere you cannot find elsewhere.
Presentation Quality: The Philadelphia Filmathon puts an emphasis on screening fidelity. As filmmakers themselves, Project Twenty1&rsquos founders have attended other festivals to see their own films screen, only to witness projector, DVD, or transfer problems ruin the entire experience, and often, encountered technicians and festival curators who couldn't care less. We pride ourselves on presenting all the films in exactly the manner they are received, and our filmmakers notice, and often submit over and over for this exact reason.
Filmmaker Q & A: The Filmathon is all about you, the filmmaker. Our audience is an artistic crowd, interested in not just the final product, but how the final product got to where it is. For filmmakers whose who are able to be in attendance, we hold filmmaker Q&A sessions outside the theater in a public forum. This means even those who did not have a chance to watch the film have a chance to ask questions and hear the filmmaker's stories. Large crowds tend to gather quickly, and curiosity and excitement quickly become contagious in the crowd as the filmmakers watch their celebrity status grow in front of their eyes.
Events and Parties: Our judges include Oscar-winners, distributors, studio owners, and celebrities. Once the screenings are over and the parties begin, filmmakers at all levels of experience get the opportunity to hang out with these movers and shakers of the film world, and plan their next projects. The Filmathon is a wonderful incubator of independent filmmakers, and has helped discover a number of filmmakers right on the verge of success in the industry, many of whom have secured distribution or representation shortly after submitting their films to the Philadelphia Filmathon. The Filmathon programs with an eye towards story and entertainment value, regardless of format, genre, length, or budget, to build a truly unique festival experience for both the filmmakers and the audience.
