FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: LOCAL FILM IS BIG WINNER AT 7th ANNUAL PHILADELPHIA FILM & ANIMATION FESTIVAL

Philadelphia… October 4th, 2012… Project Twenty1, the Norristown, PA-based non-profit, held its seventh annual Philadelphia Film & Animation Festival (PFAF) from September 27th-30th at the International House Philadelphia’s Ibrahim Theater at 3701 Chestnut St., Philadelphia. Over 100 films were screened, and the weekend wrapped with a star-studded Red Carpet Awards Ceremony hosted in part by Joel Hodgson (Mystery Science Theater 3000, Cinematic Titanic).

The Award for Best Feature went to “A Decent Arrangement” written, produced, and directed by Main Line filmmaker Sarovar Banka. The film follows an Indian-American who tires of the singles scene and decides to return to India and try his luck at an arranged marriage.

Best Web Series was awarded to the 48-minute first season of “The Mop and Lucky Files.” Series’ producer and co-star Chloe Taylor flew into Philly from L.A. for the festival. Best Short Animation was “The Hopper” a 20-minute stop-motion gangsta epic produced by Alex Brüel Flagstad of Copenhagen, Denmark, also in attendance. “The Fence,” about a man whose son died in Iraq overcoming his prejudices to help his new Iraqi neighbors, won for Best Live-Action Short. Best Music Video went to “A House, A Home,” for a touching video featuring the group Portland Cello Project, and Best Student Short went to “Abuelas” from UK filmmaker Afarin Eghbal.

PFAF also served as the World Premiere for 33 entries to this year’s 21-Day Filmmaking Competition, also sponsored by Project Twenty1. All 21-Day films had to contain the element “Jump”. The judges’ pick for Best Film was sci-fi entry “Resistant” from Michigan’s Team 10 Mile, about a miracle pill called Jumpalol which temporarily lets you forget your darkest secrets.

The festival also hosted industry workshops on screenwriting, music, working with SAG and AFTRA talent, and entertainment law, as well as parties each night in the University City area.
