Cinema Undercover is a traditional double-feature with a clever twist – the first feature is announced in advance, but the second “Undercover Feature” is left a mystery until the film begins to play. The purpose of “Cinema Undercover” is to make movie night interactive. Audience members and the community at large are encouraged to look for clues, ask questions, and interact with not only Project Twenty1, but with one another. Audience members can also guess the name of the “Undercover Feature” at the event for a mystery prize giveaway. Artists are encouraged to “Live-Tweet” at events, as well as write reviews, provide feedback, and interact with the featured independent filmmakers. Not only does this make audiences feel special, but it helps create buzz around strong independent films that might not have a major marketing budget.
Our first Cinema Undercover took place April 30th, 2009 at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, and screened two wonderful features: “The Living Wake” and “Dot.com.”
