12/10/11, Philadelphia – Project Twenty1 Films screen at FILMPROV Philly Style

FILMPROV is what happens when you take local, independent short films and ask experienced improv performers to create on-the-spot “DVD Bonus Features” like alternate endings, never-before-seen scenes and more!

4&9 Productions, LLC takes the show on the road with FILMPROV Philly Style.  The popular Washington DC area combination indie film and improv show will make its Philadelphia debut at the Maas Building on December 9-10, 2011.   18 lucky (and quick) improvisors will have the opportunity to study with 4&9′s founder and FILMPROV creator, Pamela Nash and local Philadelphia improv legend, Rick Horner, at a two-day intensive workshop, culminating in a live performance Saturday night.

The company has partnered with Project Twenty1, a non-profit Philadelphia indie film incubator, to identify the short films that will screen during the Saturday performance.  “So far, Philadelphia has lived up to its name,” says Pamela Nash, the show’s creator.  “I’ve had some great contacts with the venue and Project Twenty1′s involvement really makes this a local show.  Instead of bringing films from DC, we will screen three films by Philadelphia filmmakers.”

“We submit our library of over 600 films and animations to festivals and screenings partners all over the world to help emerging creatives receive more exposure,” says Stephanie Yuhas, Project Twenty1 executive director and co-founder. This year’s FILMPROV Philly Style selections include Henry V (directed by Gene Diringer), Drawn (directed by Andy Ritchie), and You: Keith’s Enigma (directed by Sean McKnight).

Nash says that the goal of bringing FILMPROV to Philadelphia is to provide a new outlet for improvisers, and encourage collaboration between independent theater and film, “Too many times, there are these great short films, and they’re sent out to festivals but not screened locally,” says Nash.

FILMPROV began in 2008 to showcase live improv comedy together with locally-made short films.  Most recently, FILMPROV was featured as the opening act for Pick Up a Stand Up in Vienna, VA — a speed dating program for stand up comedians who speed date their audience between sets.

4&9 is an independent film and theater company where all forms improvisation — comedy, drama, music, film — combine to create exciting collaborative improvised theater.  Drawing inspiration from improv performance techniques and classic drama structures, 4&9 is an ongoing artistic experiment.
