The Secret Element of the 21-Day Filmmaking Competition 2013 is…

CELL

For those of you dictating this, that’s Cell with a “C”. So what the heck does that mean?

We’re not going to get into the specifics of which meaning of cell we’re talking about, or whether we prefer literal interpretations or metaphors – we trust that you will come up with something creative.

All Teams must write, shoot, edit, and/or animate a short that incorporates the Element in the beginning of their film within the next 21 days.

Judges have been instructed to evaluate shorts as a whole, both creatively and technically, but to be biased towards those with creative incorporation of the Element. The better incorporated the Element, the better chance your film has to win “Best Film”. Please, do not title your film “Cell”. You will not be the only one.

Local Teams can drop off films in person on August 24 by 5 pm EDT SHARP at Mixed Plate, 216 South Street, Philadelphia, PA to be eligible for awards. Doors open at 3 pm. Even if you are handing in a short in person, we highly suggest mailing a copy also, because we cannot make exceptions for lateness due to parking, traffic, etc.

Films must be timestamped August 24 by 5 pm EDT SHARP or earlier and even late films must be timestamped by August 26th to guarantee screening at the festival – NO EXCEPTIONS! Please read Official Rules for guidelines and tips so you can plan in advance.

DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS:

For you digital people, this IS 2013… easiest ways to get us your films pre-deadline:

1) upload to dropbox, or send via WeTransfer.com – or any other file-sharing service, but those two seem to be the most reliable these days

2) share link or folder with projecttwenty1@gmail.com

We just need to have proof that it was FINISHED UPLOADING pre-deadline (email from wetransfer or dropbox with an immediate link to a file download counts). Don’t share the dropbox folder at 4:59, THEN start synching the file, it doesn’t count! We need the film AVAILABLE TO US by 5:00pm, preferably before.

The above methods limit your file size to 2GB or so (dropbox depends on your account), but really, it’s only a 10 minute film, it shouldn’t need to be any bigger than that. Try encoding MP4 H.264 at 6-8MBps for example. It should end up looking awesome and only be a few hundred MB.
