Newsletter: Call-for-Entries, Masquerade Ball & New Potential Program

March 25, 2012 in Newsletterby admin

Hi, Project Twenty1 Friend,

PFAFLogo-PrintCalling All International Filmmakers & Animators!
Get your shorts, music videos & features ready – our call for entries opens on ProjectTwenty1.com and WithoutaBox on April 1, 2012.

What makes our call-for-entries different? Not only does your entry put you into the running to exhibit at the 2012 Philadelphia Film & Animation Festival, but if you become a part of our Film Library, we will continue to consider your film for additional screening for no additional entry fee!

In the past, traditional festivals such as the Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival and Everett Film Festival, as well as exciting new screening partners, such as FilmProv and Norristown Arts Hill Festival have pulled from our library for exhibitions of short and feature work.

But what if I sell my film after it enters your library? No problem, we can pull your film out of our library at any time for no cost. We’re here to help, not to stifle!

But I keep getting rejected from other festivals because I don’t have celebrities attached/my film is several years old/I’ve already had my premiere and/or I don’t know anyone at the festival. We’re not your run-of-the-mill film festival. Our programs are based on the QUALITY of the independent work submitted – not the premiere status, age of the film, and celebrities attached. Our selections are determined by an independent panel to ensure that selections are made fairly (and not because you bought Matt or Steph a beer one time. Although I’m sure they appreciated it). :)

Become a part of an organization that promotes YOU, even long after the festival is over – mark your calendars to visit www.ProjectTwenty1.com and SUBMIT on April 1!

Montgomery County, PA: Casting Nerds & Geeks, age 21-35 (volunteer)

March 1, 2012 in for actors, opportunitiesby admin

Expires 4/1/12

Nerdy Indie Webseries

Indie production house is seeking locals with a background in acting on camera, comedy, and/or improv to launch a new webseries.  Series will delve into various topics of geekdom, including sci-fi & horror movies, comics, video games, and other nerdy delights. You must be fluent in English, and local to Montgomery County, PA. We will be shooting at least bi-monthly.

Characters:

Yorie: Petite women of Asian Descent, age 21-35: Bubbly and outgoing in conversation, incredibly angry and incorrigible when playing video games (especially shooters). Must not have problem with using excess profanity.

George: Man age 21-35 of African/Carribbean descent. Knowledgeable about movie/tv trivia and games, but much less socially awkward than the rest of the gang. Image the attitude of “Stephan Urkel” with the knowledge of “Steve Urkel”.

Various Cameos, men & women, age 21-35: Since this is an ongoing production, we’re also open to other characters that bring a unique voice to the table that we can “write in”. We want to break the stereotype that “nerds” are all skinny white guys with glasses, so people of all cultures, shapes, sizes, gender identity, and sexual preference are encouraged to apply. Bonus if you’re already a part of a nerdy webseries – we love collaborations.

Other Details:

This is NOT your typical no-production value webcam show.  We’re a group of professional video producers and screenwriters that work on narrative fiction and corporate projects year-round. Work has been very slow for all of us with the economy, so we’re all donating our time, equipment, and connections to this passion project.  We’re lucky enough to have a high-profile promotional partners secured for this project and the pilot is anticipated to receive around 100,000 views (one of our last projects received 500,000+). If the series is a success, we have the connections to monetize the content through our ad partners and pay everyone, but we’re realistic -  our first step is gaining visibility.

Contact:

Please e-mail headshots or even just a current, clear photo of yourself (doesn’t have to be fancy), some general info about your nerdy interests/hobbies, location, and relevant experience to SuperSecretNerdyProject@gmail.com.

For Immediate Release: “Movies from the Hill” brings film to Norristown

“MOVIES FROM THE HILL” DRIVE SEEKS TO BRING FILM BACK TO NORRISTOWN.
Project Twenty1 Seeks Funding to Turn Vacant Norristown Parking Lot into Outdoor Film Venue

Project Twenty1, a nonprofit arts organization, is working with the Norristown community and municipality to revitalize the city through film and animation programs. The group, founded in 2006 to help bring exposure to new and independent filmmakers, began as a once-a-year film festival promoting Philadelphia artists. Today, it is a full-time organization, hosting several film programs throughout the year.

The 2011 Philadelphia Film and Animation Festival, headed by the organization, hosted workshops and premiered over 120 short and feature films, from studios as local as Bucks County to as far-reaching as Singapore, over the course of its 4-day period; its premier event alone – the eponymous 21-Day Filmmaking Competition – received over 60 entries, and estimates almost 100 teams of filmmakers for this year’s festival in September.

Revitalization work has already begun through Norritown Arts Council, a task force of volunteers and arts group, including Project Twenty1, as well as a city-sponsored streetscaping campaign that included the redressing of the Arts Hill crosswalks as film strips, and the upcoming renovation of 401 DeKalb St. into a live theater by Theatre Horizon. Plans are also in the works to create a commemorative mural for Norristown’s bicentennial event. Film is the only aspect missing from all of this arts influx, which is why Project Twenty1 is moving forward on an open-air film screening series, dubbed, “Movies from the Hill,” which will bring  regular public film screenings to Norristown for the first time in 30 years.

“Movies from the Hill” will feature works from Project Twenty1’s library of over 600 independent films, as chosen by the residents of Norristown, as well as potentially offering walk-on screenings for filmmakers wishing to premier their works. The first such event is ostensibly planned for the summer of 2012, for which Project Twenty1 has raised $3,500 of the estimated $11,637 needed to run the event. The group is currently seeking tax deductible donations for the remaining amount on their website.
